In order to prevent damage to equipment, users are advised to ask for assistance.  Cost for photocopies is $.10 per page. Printing from public computers is $.25 per page for black and white and $1 for color copies.  Color printing is not available at all libraries. Fax service is available at all libraries.  Cost is $3 for the first page and $1 per additional pages.  Confirmation page is free.  The District does not receive faxes for individuals.

4.2 MICROFILM READERS/PRINTERS/SCANNERS

Microfilm readers/scanners are available at the Steele Memorial Library to assist patrons with research.  Printing from microfilm is $.25 per page. The library may establish time limits for use of machines if demand exceeds the number of microfilm readers.

4.2.1 GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH

Library staff will research and print photocopies for those who request it from print, microfilm, or microfiche, particularly for genealogical research. One obituary photocopy with a known date of death, or other newspaper item with a known date of publication is $10.00. More complicated and lengthy requests will be billed according to our hourly rate of $20 per hour. The library staff must first receive written request before conducting such research. Vague or imprecise queries are likely to remain unanswered.  When staff time is not available, patrons will be sent a list of private researchers who, for a fee, may also be able to help.

The Steele Memorial Library has the New York State Vital Statistics Index on microfiche and has developed the following guidelines for use:

  • Government issued identification, such as a drivers license, must be presented to the reference librarian
  • Limited to 3 microfiche per person at a time
  • If others are waiting, the time limit for a microfiche reader is 15 minutes per person
  • Photocopying or any other form of duplication is strictly prohibited

4.3 MEETING ROOM EQUIPMENT

The large meeting room (auditorium) at the Steele Library is equipped with projection and sound capabilities. There is no charge for use of this equipment, however, cost to replace or repair the equipment due to damage and for any missing accessories will be charged to the user. Malfunctions should be reported immediately to library staff. Failure to abide by this policy may be cause for denial of future use of the equipment. Laptops are not provided.
